The Australian Government’s Australian Signals Directorate and Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) maintains a web site here to help individuals, families, and businesses of various sizes to protect their computing environments from cyber criminals.
Cybercrime has increased 13% over the previous year with the dark web increasingly opening the Internet to a growing number of threats from highly organised malicious actors. To counter this you can take steps to protect yourself against common cyber security threats, such as:
- Be alert for phishing emails.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication whenever possible, especially for your main online accounts.
- Update your devices regularly and patch known exploits within 48 hours.
- Back up your important information to the cloud or an external hard drive.
You can also subscribe to the ACSC’s treats AlertService to receive an email immediately a new threat has been discovered; you can then pro-actively take action based on the recommendations in the alert. I highly recommend you do this.
